Today I had the opportunity to finally do some work outside.
Thankfully this year the magnolia tree bloomed. Last year the frost killed the blossoms.
I decided to turn over my compost piles. What I did is empty the uncomposted material into the next bin over. I started with the middle bin since the first bin was started last fall and didn't have anything worth taking out. After I transfered the uncomposted material, I then loaded up the compost and dumped it on my raised beds. I will then turn the beds, mixing it all up.
This is the result, all six beds have at least one load of compost and I have room in the compost binds for my grass clippings.
Look at that! Mmmm-mmm good.

Whilst digging up the middle pile, I leveled off the load in the wheel-barrow and noticed the mother of all grubs!!! Croiky! Look at the size of that thing! (Aussie accent por favor)
Watson, We must investigated further! (English accent obviously)
A Salamander!
I moved the salamander to the undisturbed pile to which it was happy to go.
Now, I don't view wikipedia as authoritative, but here is a link just the same.

I too was out doing yard work, not at my place, I don't have a yard :(, I was at PD & JoAnn's. PD has the pics to prove it! After the bruises & scratches I'm doing alright, getting more sore by the min! (I got attached by some tree branches) I was doing man-work!!
That's an interesting specimen you found there! Good thing you didn't slice 'im in half...I don't think they're like worms in that respect.
I loved the Steve Irwin expression! :) That's probably what I would've said!!
BTW...what'd ya do with 'im? Is he your new pet? I bet Gato would enjoy that!!
hey, looks like you are having too much fun in the dirt! I always enjoyed finding lots of critters in the mix! I wish I could have held that salamander. I think they are so cute! Glad you are enjoying your warm weather. Please do send some my direction!
HA! Well, if you put Sal on your wall then your place would slightly resemble mine ;) Of course they are gecco's here...but I guess ya can't be picky when you're livin in MI (no offense intended-of course).
