I twas enjoying a wonderful afternoon on the veranda, in the 'sun room' actually, at my parents to whence I came on short notice yesterday and got to pressing the boundaries of my contemplative capacity...not really, though I am presently at a standstill. I got to thinking (dangerous).
I remember a preacher asking something along the lines of 'how many souls is something worth' i.e. how many souls is that new BMW worth, how many souls is that new membership to the exclusive country club worth, how many souls is that new flat panel TV worth, etc. Granted, the fellow was a missionary and actively involved in evangelism so one could say that he had ulterior motives, but if money makes a difference in reaching people with the Gospel, then he does have a point in the question.
So a question: What do we take with us to heaven? I'm stuck at three things that we take with us to heaven: 1) Our character (which is made up of our thoughts and feelings), 2) Relationships (with others and with God), 3) Souls (those for whom we have labored). Anything that I missed or err upon?
So I had to ask, do my priorities match God's? Certainly a question to keep in my mind through each day. One thing I just noticed, those three things match the division in the ten commandments. The first four of the ten commandments deal with our relationship with God and the last six deal with our relationship with our fellowman. Anyway, tis time for worship.
